Nollywood actress, Doris Simeon, and funnyman, Grand Komanda, will anchor the second edition of the Crystal Awards tagged, ‘Take Over’, which holds on Sunday at the Muson Centre, Lagos.
The awards, aimed at celebrating and
sanitising the Nigerian Gospel music scene in Nigeria, is an initiative
of Mr. Timi Adegoke, who is a pastor cum gospel artiste.
Adegoke, who says he was obeying God’s
call by organising the awards, laments the current state of gospel music
in the country. He adds that this edition will honour Nigeria’s finest
gospel singers, producers, and other industry players
He says, “God handed me the vision to
begin this award 14 years ago, but I didn’t heed it up until 2011 when I
sensed that the gospel genre was slowly dying. Secular artistes have
structures while we don’t. So, I thought if we have a reward system in
place for gospel music things, will change because those who are not
truly called will be exposed.
“We need more people who are spirit
filled to come into the industry. It is not easy to obey God, but if you
have a calling a backing, you will go far as a gospel singer. With Cyrstal Awards, we hope to change things for the better, give us another 5years.
Meanwhile, Adegoke also reveals that a
special tribute to one of their own, Kefee, who recently passed on, will
be performed by Annie and Nikki Laoye at the elaborate ceremony
The event will feature live performances
by top Gospel acts including Sammie Okposo, Frank Edwards, Obiwon, Tim
Godfrey & Xtreme, Eben, Nene Soul Diva and Tehila Crew, Henrisoul.
Some of the award categories in contention include, the Comedian of the
Year, Best On-Air Personality, Best New Artiste, Best Rap/Hip Hop,
Artiste of the year and Song of the year, which will see Nosa, Mike
Abdul, Sammie Okposo and Frank Edwards, gun for the ultimate crown come
Sunday. Source: Punch
