Twenty-five years after celebrated
beauty queen, Bianca Ojukwu, emerged the first African to win the Miss
Intercontinental Beauty pageant, franchise owner of the pageant in
Africa, World Beauty Organisation, is hoping to replicate the success
later in the year.
To achieve this it will be hosting the
first edition of the Miss Intercontinental Nigeria Beauty Pageant in
Lagos, at the Intercontinental Hotel and Resorts, Victoria Island,
Lagos, on September 6.
The Chairman, World Beauty Organisation
Nigeria, Prince Donatus Okonkwo, disclosed this in a media chat held in
Lagos on Friday. While he described beauty pageantry as a major
socio-economic platforms in the world today, Okonkwo, who also sits atop
Zzini Media Concepts Limited, said the eventual winner would be an
ambassador undertaking charitable events that would bring people
together during the course of her reign.
“Ours is a true Nigerian event and the
winner wins big. Anyone who makes it to the grand finale will go home
with one prize or the other. The competition is open to any female
citizen of Nigeria between the ages of 18 and 26 years, residing in any
part of the world. She must not have had a child and the winner will be
placed on an annual salary of N2.5m, go home with a brand new car, among
other gifts. The 1st runner up stands to win N1.5m while the 3rd runner
up will get N1m,” he said.
Meanwhile, the winner of the Miss
Intercontinental Nigeria Pageant will have the opportunity to compete
with over 70 hopefuls at the international Miss Intercontinental Pageant
which will take place in Jordan, later in the year. Regional auditions
